Today Saturday 13th October off for our first surfing lesson at Manly. Got up at 8.30 and had such a good sleep bed so comfy. Apart from got woken up at 2 by Dwayne phoning but didn't answer it as wasn't sure if really ringing. Once everyone sorted got train to city and realized concord west now closer than rhodes for us so only 10min walk. But could only get train to central as doing track work then got bus to circular quays. Sarah was going to come and watch us surf but since only told her train that heading was too short notice. It was then ferry to Manly and luckily it was a nice day not raining like yesterday. Once at manly first stop food went to brighton hotel on corso. We then had a quick look round the market and I got two presents for my friends.
It was then time to head to our 2pm surf lesson not really sure what to expect. First thing to sign in then put our wetsuit on which isn't that easy. Then we went back out and got a manly t-shirt to put over wetsuit so will be able to see us better. Couldn't believe how many people there must off been over 30. It was then time to do our warm up and we spilt into 2groups people who had surfed and others who hadn't. Obviously us three were all in the beginner class and was about 20 in our group. Once spilt into our groups was time to learn how to stand up on the board. Was told my board wasn't right for me so would change once in water. Then was time to go in the water and try and stand up on our boards. But their was only 3 instructors which wasn't enough for all of us so was waiting for them to assist. One was very good and I nearly stood on my board as you can see from pictures. But then I fell in the water I supposedly took my hands off board too soon. Trust me think I did that about twice but was so much fun and never got swapped board. So I blame the board think it was too big for me. Nat unfortuantly got caught in a rip for a bit and couldn't get out. We all enjoyed and think we will definitely be doing again. I can't believe we were only in the water a hour, felt so much longer. We were so lucky to have our own personal photograph in Debbie in the beach. After showering realised I had broke my big toe nail whilst surfing but was good and left it only.
Afterwards it was time to go get Ben and Jerry ice-cream but learnt from my mistake last time and only got one scoop. I went for I have Chunky Monkey as I have always wanted to try. Overall, Ben & Jerry's "Chunky Monkey" ice cream lived up to its reputation as the fourth-best selling flavor. The ice cream had a great taste of banana, walnuts and chocolate chunks. Nat didn't want ice-cream so went to hungry jacks and realised lost purse. Asked if had which we didn't luckily someone handed it in where we ate. A quick look round shop and drinks before catching ferry back. Our aim was to go out tonight since all off on a Saturday a novelty. But we all felt too tired so went to Rhodes got DVD 50/50 and had take-away. Had Thai this time and wasn't best definitely won't be getting from there again so tore up menu. The film was good was inspired by a true story, a comedy centered on a 27-year-old guy who learns of his cancer diagnosis, and his subsequent struggle to beat the disease.
