Flying to New York
Monday 26th August woke up 5.30 to Tiagos alarm going off eventually got up at 6 and then Tiago left for the train station. I then finished sorting through a few things just making sure I had everything and taxi picked us up at 7. We had a little mini bus and ended up picking someone else onroute was abit off traffic so got to airport at 8. Had to queue to check in for about 30mins and when checked told no seats together but told to mention at boarding as might be able to change. Also couldn't believe it but my case only weighed 10kg that must be the lightest I have ever had. Trust Debbie to get body scanned and for a change I didn't get security searched. Then for breakfast just McDonalds had English muffin and hash brown which didn't really need but was nice. At boarding gate asked about seats together but unfortunately can't have so am 56J and and Debbie 49E so not even near each other. But then when got to boarding teared up our tickets and gave us new one which were together. So got 44 D and E which were very good seats right at the front so even had extra leg room, even better. We were supposed to depart at 10am but was an hour late leaving due to blocked toilet and waiting for food so missed our slot. First film decided to watch was 'The place beyond the pines' with Ryan Gosling and Ryan Cooper was just ok. Fell asleep before ending so had to watch it again then food had tomato, zucchini, olive and ricotta pasta was good. But the pudding dark chocolate mousse with salted caramel was too sweet so only ate half and obvisiously had wine but didn't get choice so ended up with Chardonnay. Next film to watch was 'Black Swan' which always wanted to see but never seen was a gripping ballet psychodrama. I then thought I best stretch my legs as been sat a while so got up and then watched episode of Arrow but could only watch one as seen other ones. It was then more food but only a small snack this time off pizza and weis mango ice cream bar very refreshing. Watched 'Olympus has fallen' next a excellent action sequence about when White House is captured by a terrorist. Time then for 'The Kings speech' was a charming story based on a true story but fell asleep for abit whilst watching. Was getting abit bored of watching films at this point so played 'who wants to be a millionaire' but unfortunately didn't win the million. I also listened to music and made my own playsuit off my favourite music. It was then breakfast had continental cereal and milk, as I knew I wouldn't eat the hot breakfast. Then watched 3 episodes of ' How I Met Your Mother' which were very entertaining and listened to music. Landed at LA at 7.10am was only a 13hr flight and probably only had 1/2 hrs sleep thought would of had more. At LA had to get off go through passport control, collect luggage and declare things forgot I had fruit on me, so taken off me. Then to recheck luggage in again and go through security have to take shoes off and go through body scanner. Normally when you fly you dont have to pick up and recheck luggage but was cause first stop in USA. It was then to gate but not boarding yet but had chance to take picture of airplane as different to normal as kangaroo wearing boxing gloves. Supposed to leave 9.10 but delayed due to flat tyre so listen to music and ended up departing at 11ish. Tried to watch 'Trance' which had me guessing saw 1st hour then kept nodding so had to rewatch ending. Lunch had salad of Cajun chicken but didn't like also normally like cheese but this one to soft and raspberry & almond slice only ate half. Decided against having wine this time as feeling quite thirsty so had appetiser instead. Then watched 'Admission' saw 45 minutes then asleep and expected it to be more funny than it was. Plane was very cold this time and air not on but at last this time could decline seat as no one behind us. The 5 hours went fast and looked like Debbie slept well but think I only had about an hour. Landed about 7ish so abit later than expected as supposed to land at 5.10pm and Debbie's luggage came straight off. But mine took forever so by the time we got out off the airport was 8 and couldn't get any money from ATM machine with my UK bank. Then how to get to hotel got taxi which took forever and he got lost got there just after 9 and taxi very expensive. Staying at the Soho Grand which looked nice only fault was that we had a queen bed and had expected two twins but unfortunately don't have. After check in was time to get food and found HSBC bank but still can't get money out so will have to get mum to go to UK bank to tell them in USA. So just had Burger King and then back to hotel and get map of New York to decide how to get to places. Have shower and found out free Internet very good but couldn't get to sleep at first eventually turned off light about 1ish.
