Statue of Liberty

Didn't sleep the best woke up 6.30 and thought would of slept better since only had about 3 hours on plane. Luckily we had breakfast included in price so had choice of 4 things so had mixed berries with Greek yoghurt with tea, juice and water. Luckily mum had been to my bank to explain that I was in USa so hopefully card would work nowwhich it did but would only let me get $100 out. It was then off to go do some exploring and walk to battery park past ground zero and Brooklyn bridge. Which took us about 45 minutes and 1st stop toilet then to get tickets and no queue but Ellis Island closed but can still do Statue of Liberty. You go through security and then you catch a ferry over to Liberty Island to see the Statue of Liberty. The ferry we were on was the 'Miss New York' to Liberty Island which only took a few minutes. When going over on the ferry you get amazing views of New York skyline and Liberty is stunning as you get up close. Once on Liberty Island first stop is to get our vocal tour device to listen to whilst walking round the island. We took but it is hard to concentrate on that with everything else going on around you. But I did get to find out some amazing facts about Statue of Liberty like the crowns seven rays suggest seven seas and seven continents. Also the torch and flame symbolises truth and justice enlightening the world and the statue conveys message of freedom. It it very impressive to look at and you feel small next it but it is 22 storey's tall and when built other buildings were only 5 storey's. the thickness of waist is 35 feet wide, right arm length 42 feet and one fingernail is length of my forearm. It is made of cooper about 2.5mm thick the same as two American pennies placed together. You can get very close to statue which is great for pictures and also since you are on island you get great views of the water. While on the Island there is a cute gift shop, cafeteria and ice-cream cart but I didn't buy anything whilst Debbie got a few things. It was then to get a drink and to queue for my free certificate which gets sent by email but Debbie didn't want one. I definitely would recommend visiting this wonderful monument as is very amazing. But wish had gone to the Statue of Liberty museum in the pedestal, however need to get tickets before you leave home. However to do the crown you need to get your tickets 3 months ahead of time, at least I know next time. We then wandered back round to the front of statue to get picture of us together. Then to get ferry back to battery park and got back about 12ish food pizza pretzel was ok. It was then to find the famous charging bull sculpture which took about 5 minutes was lots of people round it. It isn't just ant statue it is perhaps the one of the most popular statues in New York City, and perhaps the world having featured in a few films. The bronze figure of the bull preparing to charge measures 11 feet in height and weighs 7,00 pounds. We then continued walking up broadway stopped at century 21 a department store which offers up to 65% off retail price. So much choice at great prices is definitely worth a visit for anyone that wants to grab a bargain. But I only got a Ralph Lauren t-shirt only $18 but Debbie got a few things even some Clairns products. I didn't get any Clairns as bought a few in UK, but I did get a free 30 second facial and my skin felt so soft afterwards. Back to hotel then to drop things off and get changed as very warm so changed into my shorts. Then we continued walking up broadway bad idea as lots of shops to stop at this point Debbie's feet hurting so got some Toms. Walked past Macy's the works largest department store but resisted going in as doing big shopping spree on Thursday. Stop at Starbucks onroute for a drink off juice as this point quite thirsty and not really had much. Then we eventually got to a Times Square the most bustling square in New York. It is known for its many Broadway theatres, cinema and electronic billboards, an amazing place the lights were awesome. Our first was the M&M's world which is 3 floors of merchanise and obvisiously had to get M&M'S as different flavours like pretzel and coconut. It was then to the Hersey shop which as soon as you walk in you smell chocolate but unfortunately was only one floor. Then time for food and went to Hard Rock Cafe a lot bigger and busier than Sydney one reasonable prices nice atmosphere. Got back to room at 9.30pm only took about an hour to walk back a lot quicker than going. When got back not really tired watch TV eventually had shower 10.30 and couldn't get to sleep at first but eventually did.
